Is there a problem wiring the power switch to the secondary of the transformer so that it operates like the original?

Hi, i don't think it is a problem. I did it this way (original power switch to switch the secondarys of the Meanwell SMPS). That means SMPS is always on (it goes to 0.5W standby mode). Works flawless since 18 months.

The datasheet says lifetime of this smps depends on temperature of the electrolytic caps. If we guesstimate a maximum PSU temperature of 50°C the smps might survive 10 - 30 years when plugged in 24/7/365.

Hi All!
Here's another mod on an earlier 1210 (1989, the first was a 2004 one) that has a different main board, so it probably would interest you...

The changes are the same but original snubber caps are placed under the board and the first cap and diode bridge differ from later version.

Cheers
