And what did we buy today?

23 year old Whirlpool set bit the dust.
After only 23 years? Sheesh they just don't make 'em like they used to.
I don't like the agitator-less designs and have read too many complaints about them not cleaning well, tying sheets in knots, etc.
The knot thing has to do with the way you load the machine. My wife complains about it, I don't, then I watched her load. In a top loader you might want to very loosely wrap around the spindle. In a front loader you bunch things.
Cleaning? I own two front loaders now (Whirlpool and Kenmore) and won't go back to top. I think the people that are complaining aren't using them properly.

I have a 10 year old front load LG washer and would buy another.
We have a family of 5 that would have killed off a top load washer by now.

Though living in Colorado you do not have to worry about mold buildup if you open the door every once in a while. Not sure how that works living off the gulf coast with a tropical depression hovering over an algae bloom that has closed the beaches.

...Behringer HA-4700, four output headphone amplifier. ... no manual or schematic seems to be available....

Many of B-ringer's products are stolen wholesale from others. Put a snip of specs in Google and see what *other* brand has the specs that B-ringer copied, and see if it is the product B-ringer copied.

In this case I'm thinking Rane, though there have been others, and the Rane 4-hp box is long in the tooth and B-ringer may have found something newer/cheaper to copy.

Do Top-Loaders still exist ??

Haven't seen one on sale in the UK for many, many years.

Is it just a USA thing ?

.

This ^^^ 100%

Water efficiency!!!

Europe and UK had dumped their top loaders by the time I was knee high.

I'm 40 now and haven't seen a working example in probably 30 years.

I understand the reason they were abandoned in UK and EU is water efficiency (they aren't efficient)

Oh and the few cases of children being dragged into them and drowned. Or something.

its probably some combo, but particularly in the UK, unless born of some blue blooded descent, most families couldn't afford a home with a utility area large enough for a top load machine - such luxuries it seems the rest of the western world takes for granted

Small top load spin drivers are still about though (and those really are still useful, esp if you hand wash some items)

Not to forget the Kiwi Fisher & Paykel popularising Direct Drive top loaders....best high speed spin dry cycle on the planet.

Dan.
The F&P Smartdrive certainly has a lot to answer for [emoji23] but it was a robust design which has stood the test of time (just with more sensors and pretty screens) and they wash clothes well enough.

I've had a few "intuitive eco" models over the years and they've caused me very little grief. The odd clogged pump, which incidentally requires no tools to remove and clear, one bad controller (due to a clogged pump it would seem) and a knackered seal/bearing is about the worst of it, and we can blame beach sand for the seal and bearing. Replaced in an afternoon with a hammer, screwdriver (ab)used as a drift punch, and a large spanner.

+1
We do try to leave the door ajar, and probably ought to clean it more often. However it just runs and runs, no problems, direct drive system is great.

Hi PRR,
You're probably right about Behringer. Turned out that the regulator had flux on it and looked like the case cracked. Horrible soldering job. The best surprise was that the darned thing works fine. As fine as a ton of op amps driving headphones can sound. Looks like they use a ton of NJM4580L (SIP format).

I'm not going to bother it. It's back together. This is the very first time I have bought anything on Ebay that said it didn't work, and it turned out that it does!
