I can't stand anything around my wrists, In fact I wear nothing but my wedding ring. My phone keeps better time than any of these watches.

Wrist watches are actually making a comeback. And yes I use my cellphone, but may have to stop as all the new models seem to be getting to large to be comfortable in my pocket.

Sorry to hear you don't like things around your wrists, some times handcuffs can be fun. Other times not so. Knew a blonde female officier who would mention she came with a set...

And only in an acrylic box so that the parts cannot run to freedom. And they do try!

John

Once I was guiding a salmon fisherman (fly variety not boats and nets) on the Margaree River. He had an expensive hand crafted fly reel, which, being high-end, proceeded to jam while in use. I managed to get it apart, but in the process a tiny tiny coil spring flew out and landed somewhere on the shore near me. The river bank at Skye Lodge pool consists of stones varying from a large grain of sand to about a foot in diameter, with the average being about the size of your fist. I still don't understand how I found that spring, but I did. Field repairs can be a b***h. I got that expensive and beautiful piece of junk working again, though I don't remember whether that client ever hooked a fish.

Good to know, I don't give a flying poop about any of them. You can get perfect time for free.

I like wearing a watch, it is a single-purpose device that tells me the time, with low accuracy, at a glance without having yo remember where my phone is. But if you want accuracy you can't beat ntp.

I like my analog watch because it has no pretension of precision. You never look at an analog watch and declare the time to be 3:57:16PM, you just say it's about four o'clock. Quick and dirty.

So an about $50k Patek Philippe watch ending in the trash after a botched DIY repair attempt. Thanks for letting everybody know you can afford that.

I wonder what's your next eccentric achievement . Don't forget to complain about the high cost of health care in the US.

You guys and you in particular Waly are so easy to provoke... its a lot of fun. For me any way.

That watch is 825K usd new. No I don't own it. If I did, I would not trash it myself. You are so gullable. believe anything. How absurd does one have to be before you figure I must be joking?

Besides -- If I want to know the time, I go outside and look at the Breitling on the Bentley dash board. Snow, blizzards, rain or shine, day or night... always works for telling me the time.

My eccentric solution to high health care costs was to move to another country. Works for me.

Ok, now that you delivered an eccentric joke, could you please deliver a good joke to us, the poor pitchfork wielding masses?

Yeah, watches are definitely fashion/jewelry at this point, which is why I think most smartwatches are destined to fail. Somewhat useful in meetings or situations where pulling your phone out is frowned upon, though.

Not a big fan of watches in general, but I have to say, I always liked the Omega Speedmaster, especially given its history.

Over the decades, I had my affair with watches, especially when I was in Switzerland. I had an Omega Seamaster for some years, and although it was physically beautiful, it actually gave lousy time. It ran fast and I was always at the train station early, because of it. I tried to get it reset, but the Swiss tech said that it was set right, but it wasn't. It was 6 sec per day fast, always. Finally, years later, I got it adjusted by an American watchmaker, who leveled with me about what was inside.
Yet, I almost bought an Omega marine chronometer for about 8 times the price of my Omega, but decided not to. Just too much for a watch. Now, I have a $25 Casio that gives better time than my Omega did, and it has run for years and years, with just a change in battery once in a while. That I call progress! '-)
I, being opposite Scott in so many ways, refuse to wear rings, but I do wear a watch. I like to leave my smart phone at home. Go figure.

That's exactly opposite of me, without a wristwatch I feel naked. At this time, I own two of them due to a coincidentalgifts from my late mother and from my wife. One is a Fortis automatic wristwatch, used by Russian astronauts, from a Swiss brand specialized in professional timepieces, much like Omega is used by NASA. The other is from TAG Heuer, a full size version of her own model. Thankfully, both work just fine, the Heuer being uncannily precise, it loses about 2 seconds per month and has quartz electronic regulation. That's precise enough for me so I won't be changing them any time soon. Btw, I've hand Heuer timepieces since 1968 and 1986.

I can't stand rings, so I wear none.

In my life I have had 4 watches. All birthday presents. Still have 3 of them. Oddly there are only two watches I have ever really wanted. One is the omega my father wears and I hope to inherit a long time from now. The other was the original citizen eco-drive (pic attached). I wanted this because at the time it was the only affordable radio synchronised watch and I loved the fact that the sweep second hand and the digital second display were exactly in sync as this appealed to my inner OCD. But I didn't get it for two reasons
1) It's fugly as a Chrysler
2) It is way more than I could justify on a time piece.
