Frugel-Horn XL for Alpair 10.3/10p, Fostex FF165wk, more

I play mine with the back of the horn base almost touching the wall behind them. I toe them in a bit. I moved them around them a lot until I got them "tuned" in to get the best out of them in my room. It was fun to move them around, listen for a bit, then move them again.

I hope this helps

Let's get together again once the bass has settled in. Am still in the process of tuning the stuffing and the positioning. Could really use several ears to fine tune my set-up.

I realized that rear ported speakers are harder to position than front ported once. It was easier for me to position the pensil box than with the FHXL.

Heard these speakers personally together with a couple of other hobbyist friends (JoeyGS' place is a 5 minute drive away from mine). These sound wonderful and build quality is top notch.

I am confident there would be enough bass. Just would like to tune it with the best position and stuffing to allow detailed rendering of the bass.

Great build! And thanks for the pictures! Not sure how you cut the outriggers with that saw though...

I am interested in building these cabinets. Do you find there is enough bass? Can you get them right into the corners?

I'm toying with my pair as well.
I started in a small room of 16sqm, too much bass, sound unbalanced.
The I try them in a huge room of 36sqm with high celling (from 260cm to 500cm).
Sounds really great, good bass, medium/high perfect with a smooth non-integration ;-)
They are very close to rear wall, and I stuffed them lighter than stuffing provided (around 2/3).

First Frugel-horn XL in Sweden?

Thanks for the kind thoughts. Yes, been in the hospital for going on 5weeks now. Open heart surgery and, so far only minor post-op complications /delays can take a lot out of a guy-so it'll likely not be until into the New Year before he'll be anywhere near a keyboard. I've intentionally turned the data service off on my cellphone before entering his room.

There really isn't an appropriate emoji or smiley face here to express the complexity of feelings of having yet another close friend or even closer family member go through the Russian Roulette / meatgrinder into which the modern Western Medical "System" can sometimes be scapegoated by the emotionally scarred patients and loved ones. If there was, the code would contain a high percentage of expletives- including several multiple words
