This sounds delicious. I need to get some garam masala again.
I think GM is one of those things that has as many recipes as cooks, but here's my fave:
4 tbsp coriander seeds
2 tbsp cumin seeds
1 tbsp black peppercorns
2 tsp cardamom seeds *
4 x 7.5cm cinnamon sticks
1 tsp whole cloves
1 whole nutmeg
2 tbsp cumin seeds
1 tbsp black peppercorns
2 tsp cardamom seeds *
4 x 7.5cm cinnamon sticks
1 tsp whole cloves
1 whole nutmeg
*either toast green cardamom pods, then peel and measure seeds (PITA) or buy decorticated cardamom seeds and lightly toast them. First method gives better result but may drive you insane.
In a small pan over medium heat toast separately all but the nutmeg. Toast each spice until it is fragrant then turn out onto a plate to cool. Grind to a fine powder (mortar and pestle, spice grinder, blender), then grate nutmeg and mix in. Store in a tightly sealed jar.
sunday morning hockey practice.
4 eggs/bacon better be lots of hockey practice.
In some cultures the best part. Andouillette anyone?
Not my thing, but my favourite bistro in Montreal apparently serves good ones.
Le Grand Comptoir
hehe, I did the same thing Sat morn, just for the fun of it. 4 eggs is what I usually eat in a month.4 eggs/bacon better be lots of hockey practice.
The salt container there is one of my favourite redundancies. 'Sea Salt'
Ya, no secret there. Where do you think it came from?

I'm no salt expert, but someone gave me a Salt Grinder as a gift. It came preloaded with salt that was a light pink color. IIRC, it said it was mined from the Himalayan Mountains. Were ocean waters up there millions of years ago?
Breakfast for dinner, about as basic as it gets.
The smell of bacon and hash lingering through the house still reminds me of sunday morning hockey practice.
This seems to be a trend. I made potatoes o'brian, pork chops and eggs for dinner just last week. Just trying to use up the bell pepper I had on hand you know. My 10 year old now thinks breakfast for dinner is better than sliced bread.

Yes, likely. There are these huge mineral salt deposits in the Himalayas, bothe the "pink" stuff and "black salt", both contain a lot of extra minerals (iron, sulfur, etc). Apparently some of those deposits were discovered by Alexander the Great back in the day, and have been mined ever sice, which is pretty impressive.

No, the Himalayan mountains were down there.
Himalaya => Nepal=> earthquake=> shape shifting
The Himalaya is the top of an earth crust section which is jammed in the rear by two larger bread crusts.
It's relatively small, has no other option than to crawl up the booty of the big momma above him. (billions, not millions)

Yes kids seem to enjoy breaks for dinner too. My nephew wont turn down waffles at any time of day or night.
What do potatoes o'brian consist of?
Sometimes I simply cube them and fry together with peameal bacon. Served with eggs over easy on top so you can break the yolks and mix them all in.
I think Ill break out the waffle iron this sunday morning actually. We have lots of fresh blueberries and real maple syrup from the local farmers market.
Me either but I do know that it all originally came from an ocean somewhere.I'm no salt expert

Salt no. Sea salt yes.
(studying physical geography at A'dam U, including classes at a geology faculty, beats reading yellow pages. Once you know what the next chapter will be about, phone books become rather boring)
rock salt.
Which is dried up sea bed? just it dried up loooong ago.
Aside: himalayan pink rock salt seems to have become very popular as a boutique NACL source. Go figure.
loooong ago.
can be, but doesn't have to be.
(me bulk salt speculator, any color/colour and flavor/flavour, just haven't found an exchange listing yet)

I believe all Halite is formed as a result of evaporation.

In the east it has been for ages.
