DSP Xover project (part 2)

I plan in the near future to build a new Najda system this time in a slimline 1U from Modushop. Here is what could be the front plate (10 mm thick).
The USB led are for the WaveIO USB board.
Aesthetic comments are welcome :)

Hi,
I also think it is not advisable to short circuit the capacitors. We have changed the electrolitics against foil-capacitors. Well, it is impossible to replace a 22uF Electrolytic with a 22 uf foil-capacitor. We replaced with 2,2 uF foil- capacitors ( WIMA, MKS, 63 V) and the result is awesome. More clarity in the highs, tighter bass, overall improvement of sound quality. If someone is interested I could post a picture how it can be done.

Hi again,

I would need DC-Coupling NOT for audio application, at the moment i think to buy another najda board for an educational project were we make FFT after digital signal filtering of an analog sensor signal and i think maybe Najda board could do the filter work without problems, but in all cases we need FFT frequency range from DC to about 80k.

Hi Sigi,

I'm interested in this upgrade if it makes worthwhile improvements. Would you mind posting pictures please?

I notice there's a 50V version of the Wima MKS caps which are slightly smaller - presuming physical size is the main issue here.

First have to read what I have to do to post pictures.
Thanks. When you click reply to a post you get a box that comes up. There's a paperclip symbol, which when you click opens up an attachments box - just select/browse the picture files (which would hopefully be stored on your computer) and hit the upload button. It's very easy. Hope that helps.

Hi,
first a few remarks:
If you have a red bord be very careful when desoldering the electrolytic capacitors. Although they are soldered on through hole pads, it can happen, that the pad at the bottom is lost. This is not a serious problem because the connections to the circuitry are on the component side.
If you have a black board the TH pads are much better, had no problems at all when desoldering
Find attached some photos. The ones with the red board are not finished, I just began to solder one end of the capacitor to the boards pad.
The black board is a finished board working perfectly.

Desoldering

IMG_0230.jpg Hi,
also a few remarks to the desoldering. The problem with the new black board ist
that the solder ist really much more difficult to desolder than with the red board.
May be the red one still has plumber`s solder?
Space ist a little bit a problem, but it works. I changed meanwhile five Najdas to
foil capacitors. Everybody was very satisfied with the result. It is not risk-free,
but i think Nick still has a lot of Najda boards...

Hi Sigi and Ulf,

is there a reason to go for MKS4 over MKS2 or MKS02, or is it what you've had at hand? MKS2 is available in smaller sizes and could be fitted probably directly with bent legs towards each other. And MKS02 with a max capacity of 1uF and 2,5mm between legs would fit right in (mids and highs).
