Finally, an affordable CD Transport: the Shigaclone story

Hi Tibi,
Any step to step info for this modification ? my Mark I shiga got same problem, want to modify it while waiting for the Mark II to come.

Looking forward for Mark II.

Thanks
with regards
Ang

Ang,

You need to move one transistor and one cap.
Sorry ... maybe I'm too technical, but I do not know what you mean by step by step, because I see only two steps: move transistor and move the cap. :D
Pictures should be enough.
If you enconter any problem, please post here and I'll do my best to help you.

Tibi

"Q3 must be also as close as possible to C50 in order to avoid any spurious noise to get in.
C45 - 100 pF is there to reject any VHF noise on Q3 and must be as close to Q3 as well"

means put a jumper wire from C50 to pin 47 and a jumper wire from Q3 base to C50 ?
how about C45 ?

Thanks

So actually not modify ,only reduce the path for C50 and C45 .
If so ,don't understand , the different between PCB path and jumper wire ,which one shorter ?

Thanks

Ang,

It is very important to have base transistor as close to DSP. The wire from collector can be longer.
What is important is to avoid any noise in transistor base and this modification remove long trace from base and move this to collector.

Hi Guys!

I just got this for my Shiga. It's similar to the Flatfish transport but thicker and heavier :) There are still lot of thing to be done like brushing and anodizing(black)hopefully in the next two weeks.

Thanks to Peter,Jarek and all the rest members for this toy!

MKII shipping

Hello Tibi,
Any word on when the latest order of MKII's, ordered from your Web store, will be available? Also, I know you have made mods on the MKII to improve it, but I would love to see a list of things to do to the MKII to MOD it for the better. I'm a little confused about the whole different regulators available thing. So I would like to know about that, and any other things that can be done. Thank you very much.

Hello Guarnera,

Latest orders are delayed due TME out of stock 18pin connectors. - TMM-2-0-18-2 AMPHENOL - Conector: Micro-MaTch | TME - Componente electronice

I'm already working on a Shiga MKII which include all mods and some parts who will enhance performance. In the next days I'll open a new thread for this.

OK back to testing and experimenting :)

Has anyone tried a silver mica cap on C8? I have ordered some 10nF Russian NOS ones to try

10nF Russian mica are only mica, not silver-mica and the size is big, very big. Personally I didn't liked the sound in C8 position. Too sharp ... musicality is lost.
My new revelation are Mundorf EVO silver-gold. This give a relaxed presentation while keeping detail in the right place.
0.1uF tantalum is to right.
Mundorf EVO silver-gold fool my ears so nice, give pleasure and this is what we're all looking for, right ?

Pls see Shiga MKII building and modding thread http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/digi...e-mkii-black-builders-thread.html#post3918573

Tibi
