Actually it might be worse than that. Conduction uses electrons. Electrons are spin-half fermions. To return one to its previous state you have to rotate it by 720 degrees. That means that cables could be half-directional, instead of bidirectional as naive classical theory says. It may not be enough to connect the cable the right way round; you may have to rotate it another 360 degrees as well. This fact may invalidate all the DBTs used to prove that cables don't matter. ;-)
it's all perspective
nah... I believe Cooper-pair formation is obscured by the smoke used in conventional component fabrication as a first order effect
Hence, eliminating the need for the smoke could, theoretically, unlock an enhanced conduction state in high end audio, irrespective of spin states.
mirrors might also help, in this instance at least..

I thought it was the objectivist camp always complaining about coloration. The subjectivists don't mind different color smoke, as long as it looks pretty.Maybe that's what causes all the different "colorations" observed by the subjectivist camp, eh??
I thought magic smoke is always blue. Are you telling me that there are alternatives I haven't tried?
More of a purple haze

As long as the smoke is generated by burning snake oil...
We seem to have a few "wallet oriented" objectivists here IMO, hard to hear with your ears in that general location.I thought it was the objectivist camp always complaining about coloration. The subjectivists don't mind different color smoke, as long as it looks pretty.
But of course! I had not seen the connection. As long as the smoke is generated by burning snake oil...
I thought it was about time to do some serious investigation into snake oil. How much oil, or otherwise fat, do real snakes contain? Not much it seems.
Snake meat contains roughly 93 calories per 100g (3.5 oz) of raw meat, depending on the type of snake. This is roughly half the calories and one third the amount of fat of a similar amount of sirloin beef steak.
In other words, there is little snake oil to begin with, about 1/3rd as much as there is bull oil, pound for pound. But, with the exception of the Everglades and the Mississippi Delta, there generally is much more bull to go around. Therefore, cherish your snake oil, it's a precious commodity.

The continuing saga of Ted Denney's snake oil
DPM posted on the already mentioned thread on the Stereophile website this:
"I sat through one of the demonstrations of the HFTs and FEQ. In short, they work as advertised. Ted's explanations was these devices work on the ultrasonic noise in the listening environment. Though this noise is too high in frequency for humans to hear it does negatively impact those frequencies we do hear. Taming said noise results in better system performance by removing another impediment."
Okaaaaaay so what are your feelings about the ultrasonic noise explanation?
Any and all theories are welcome, even you Ted if you are reading this

Always good to get your retaliation in first, so when peddling snake oil you need both an 'explanation' of how it works and an 'explanation' as to why the effect can't be detected using normal science. If you can combine these two so much the better. Alleged ultrasonics (or infrasonics) are possibilities to explore.
Round it off with the usual customer-ego-polishing of 'people with normal ears/brains/equipment/rooms won't hear the effect so don't listen to the naysayers; you are superior to them and have proved it by having so much disposable income that you won't mind sharing it with me'.

good ol´ 2stroke wartburg or trabant has lots of itI thought magic smoke is always blue.
maybe some folks are experimenting with snake oil additives...

Ok I could not help but think of this thread when I saw WBT sells a gold plated crimping tool? Their explanation is it protects from corrosion?!
