Hornresp

Hey David,

It was quite a while since we where arguing about Tractrix at Audioasylum:D.

I am trying to make use of my "not so very suitable for horn" Altec 414-8As.

Have done some trial&error simming a "hornreflex" midbass to be use up to ca 350Hz.

A 150Hz LeCleach or Spherical horn in front of the driver and a bassreflex at the rear. I will use it in 1*Pi as the horn will be placed on the floor against the sidewall. Two issues:

Can not use "Directivity SPL" when running "Combined response".

Can not add damping in the box.

Any ideas how to approximate this?

Hi David,
I was attempting a ported rear chamber with entry at the throat in an OD configuration by checking the throat ported option, this does not to appear to be working correctly. The behavior displayed is that of a sealed box, however if I select the rear vented option it appears to work. Is it broke or is it a Pilot error? Maybe I don't understand the throat ported option's function? <---likely:eek:

Thanks for putting out such a great tool!

Hi Lars,

It was quite a while since we where arguing about Tractrix at Audioasylum.

We weren't arguing, we just agreed to disagree :).

From a purely theoretical / mathematical standpoint I still can't see how a horn defined by the tractrix curve can be considered to be an exponential horn. The effective profiles may be similar near the throat, but the formulas defining the expansions are fundamentally different, and based on totally different assumptions regarding wavefront shape.

Can not use "Directivity SPL" when running "Combined response".

That is because Hornresp has no way of knowing how the two sound sources are positioned in relation to each other.

Can not add damping in the box.

That is correct.

Any ideas how to approximate this?

Sorry, no :).

Kind regards,

David

Hi NEO Dan,

I think you might be misinterpreting the meaning of the Hornresp Ap1 parameter :).

The throat port is the opening in the panel the driver is mounted on, through which the sound from the diaphragm travels into the throat of an offset driver or tapped horn.

See my post #1464 on page 147 of this thread for further details.

Kind regards,

David

FWIW, I had no problem initiating a download just now and have never had a problem putting HR into a different location, be it a drive an/or in a My Documents folder whether W95,98,XP. I'm curious though why your screen shot of HR shows no field definitions or Nd, TH, etc. hot link next to the number of drivers field.

Hi Helmuth,

I gather from the post below that you have now resolved your Hornresp problem. Is this correct?

Hi David,

Yes it works again. And thanks again for sharing this great program.

I have re-installed it. Only strange it crashed and lost projects.

Would it be possible to make a feature to simulate a front loaded horn with BR-volume in hornresp.

Regards, Helmuth

Hi Helmuth,

Not sure that I understand - by BR do you mean bass-reflex?

If so, then Hornresp can already model a horn-loaded vented-box enclosure. Note 11 on page 20 of the Help file refers.

Kind regards,

David

uploading pics

Seems like a good time to jump in and ask :
How do people save & upload the nice jpegs of Hornresp results into these threads ?
I was expecting some option to 'Export' > 'jpeg' from any of the results, but it's not quite that simple . Do people just 'print screen' and then crop the picture in Paint and save as a jpeg ? - or is there a better way ?
Cheers
