• WARNING: Tube/Valve amplifiers use potentially LETHAL HIGH VOLTAGES.

Not half as cool as most of the ones on here ,but still i am proud of my first tube build. although it's based on a designed pcb. I just sourced all the parts under my discretion. assembled and designed the enclosure.

pcb is based on this design:

Hi-end phono preamplifier

Still need to get all the fingerprints clean from the brushed stainless steel and need to add feet and sand and stain the wood.

Thanks for the nice comments about my amplifier.

I used 807 and 866a was because I collect larger and mercury vapor tubes and I had a lot of those two types and thought it would be fun to actually build something with them. The 6F8Gs I used because they are electrically the same as 6SN7 but more affordable (NOS $4) and they matched the appearance of the other tubes.

I did in fact build 3D models of all the parts on Solidworks and drag them around to get what I wanted. I prefer a design with not a lot of empty space. It did still turn out pretty large, though, at 15.5x11 inches and 48 pounds. Modelling all those parts and getting all those components to fit on the turret boards in a logical manner took much longer than actually building it.

I am extremely happy with the way it sounds and am officially addicted to tube audio.

It is completely ready. The photos were taken quite a long time ago.
It was shown for the first time at Finnish DIY-show last May.
See below link.

Innerworld Audio - DIY 2010 Finland

10 pcs. of complete mechanic parts were made by local professional workshop. I planned to make this as a kit for advanced hobbyists, but the documentation is still "in phase".
I have the schematics available if somedy is interested in.

6LU8 Spud

My first tube amp. A 6LU8 Spud. The schematics and such are available in this post.

The chassis is made from 18 mm think walnut. It measures 290 x 290 x 95 mm. Top plate is 1.6 mm aluminum. Bottom plate (not shown) is 1.6 mm aluminum perf plate.
