I just read a post on a google group alt.support.diabetes that there has been
some work on reversing ageing in mice. By the way alt.support.diabetes is a flakey
group 90% spam and other junk with only a few good post like this one.

I hope I type this right and it works. Anyone know a real easy way to inport
a link like this from the adress bar to use in a post like this one?

One even ing, after a ouija board session, I went up to a friend's room and we were smoking dope - this is 1970 - and listening to Grateful Dead or Pink Floyd or some thing. And suddenly I found myself going down a narrow road through a tunnel of trees towards a bright light. I remember a great whirring noise, but I could still hear the music and my friend Vicky asking me, 'Would you like some coffee?' - and I couldn't answer.

The other guy who was there, Kevin, said: 'Where are you?' He could see that something was happening, and I - 'Where am I? Where am I?' - you know, I'm try ing to think. And it was as though everything became clear and I was looking down at us sat there and I said, 'Oh my God, I'm on the ceiling!' - and I could see my mouth down there making the words. Then I seemed to travel off across Oxford, over the roofs of the colleg es, across the sea to Europe - all over the place.

I feel cheated. My weed isn't good enough. On reflection I think it's easier for women. Lighter minds travel faster.

Most here probably regard themselves as engineers to some extent, dealing in hard facts, concrete objects. The advantage of some arts education, however, allows one to think in the abstract, metaphors - not taking everything literally.... which is where Dawkins goes awry...

2 things can happen when we die. There will be some type of after life, or there will be none. We will know when we die. Every living thing on this planet and perhps other planets share the same DNA. Dogs, cats, humans, deadly virus, bacteria the mold in the basement the plants the fish in the sea everything has the same basic DNA. Since everything has the same DNA the same fate awaits all living things. Every living thing on this planet and elsewhere in the universe will experoence after life or not. At what point in our exsistance will we take to the afterlife? When we are suffering from dementia and then die do we want to spend eternity trying to remember who was that spirit I just met? Howe about if we die just after a horrible death? Do we want to spend eternity remembering our demise? No of course not. I don't believe we can choose which moment in our lives to take to the afterlife. How about thoses first 2 cells when we are concieved. Sometimes those little embryos do not develope and die. What is their afterlife? When I was in my 30's some 30 years ago. Life was grand. I had a good income, was single, had my own home, lots of single women around that were looking for a husband and were very willing to show off their talents. That's what I would like to take to the afterlife. Life for me then was grand. Now I am falling apart slowly but my doc says I am in far better shape than the majority of people my age. I don't want to take this part of my life into eternity. I will continue to live on in my children. When I was watching them grow I could see character traits in my children that my family and my wife's family have, including grand parents as well as uncles and aunts from both sides. That is how I will continue in my afterlife. Through my children. A little piece of me will continue. If you don't have kids maybe some of your family members have children, perhaps cousins etc. Somewhere someone is related to you and your DNA lives, prospers and continues and so do you. Good luck to all. Let us all live long healthy lives and keep building. Long live diy

My thought on death is that when you die you stop existing.
The brain shuts down, the body shuts down then decomposes.
What will continue to exist is how people around me remember what i've said and done,
the influence i've had on other people during my life.
Maybe some of that will even be transferred to people i don't know.
So in a way death is a reflection of how i have lived my life.

Hi abraxalito,
yeah I know what you mean; there was always a degree of intellectual clash between them due mostly to the "punctuated equilibrium v's gradual/ steady state" evolutionary theories. (Gould being of the former)
I think to be fair that they had a meeting of minds of sort as Dawkins in subsequent books has conceded, if not explicitly.

"The God Delusion" is a must read for everyone. Whether you like it or hate it; agree with it or disagree with it, it will make you think. It would be a particularly suitable Christmas present.
