Looking at the picture of the firehouse, I see right where that is on the map. the Hostel is just up over the hill from there. very very close. doesn't look like there is anyway to get there directly unless you feel like scaling the wall/hill but dang that's close!

I wonder if we could get a group rate?

There is a direct path to the Fire house. I used to commute on the path by the hostel. But we aren't in t he Firehouse this time Instead we have 5 rooms plus a presentation room in Building "C", 2nd floor

Is there parking near by? How about loading/unloading? I imagine that this needs to be planned somewhat. Any ideas on this?

Fort Mason is event center, with several facilities. It is designed for events much bigger than our small BAF. If you read this thread from very beginning you could find many answers on the facility itself, since that is where we hosted the first BAF. Only difference is that we will be in the building that is next to Fire House, but parking, accessibility, e.t.c. is the same.

Shortly, there is plenty of parking and the fee is very reasonable for the whole day. The building is accessible with car for loading/unloading. About year ago Mark and myself visited rooms where we are going to host this year event, and there was a freight elevator with wide area for loading and access. When we choose venue for the event we obviously think about all these aspects, but we have in addition to think about acoustics of the place as well what sometimes creates big problem in finding the right location.

-Ok Siegfried Linkwitz has announced that he will give a talk at BAF.
Topic:
"What are the On-axis and Off-axis Frequency Response Requirements For Stereo Loudspeakers?"

Whoee!

Don Naples, whose company Wood Artistry makes the custom Orion cabinets and kits, will set up a pair of the latest Linkwitz Orion 3.2 models, which can be auditioned all day.

Also:
Depends on what other events are going on that day, but there is usually free parking available a short distance away..
And if you only stay a half hour to unload, even the paying lot is free.

We will set up an Orion speaker system that includes the latest modifications to the Analog Signal Processor (ASP). For those not familiar with the Orion system, there is plenty of information on the Linkwitz Lab - Loudspeaker Design website. Basically, the Orion system is a dipole configuration with the ASP providing active crossover outputs that are fed into eight channels of amplification. We do offer completely finished systems but for those who want to build their own, we offer complete kits that even include the glue. We also sell some parts that are more difficult to make such as black anodized machined aluminum pucks (for mounting the midrange drivers), to help those who make their own cabinets. I hope to see you at BAF where you can hear this system and I will answer any (at least about the construction) questions you may have.

I'm looking forward to the RAAL demo. Those heavy beasts Alex brought last year were quite impressive. However, the NN Acoustic Xenias were my favorite speakers of the show!

It would be nice if Alex would share a complete, cost effective diy design that incorporates the use of his ribbons. I'm sure his presentation on the omni-directional ribbon will be interesting, but I'm wondering how many of those attending will be able to afford them.

BAF 2010 is shaping up to be the best ever!

Actually that listing is from last year. Not clear how much presence RAAL will have.
Vladimir is going to correct a few things on the site to cut down on the confusion.
At the moment don't take the site info too seriously.

This thread is the best source of info at the moment. The fixed info is that the show WILL now return to Ft Mason, San Francisco. It WILL be Oct 30th, and we WILL have 4 listening rooms, a hospitality room, and a presentation room.

Stuff in the works/ done for BA -

"Kingfisher" jfet/tube hybrid P-P with Fisher 300B iron and 7591A outputs - done!

"Lil' Devil" hybrid jfet/tube P-P amp with 6JB5/JC5 outputs and Baldwin iron - another one of those bratty 6" cube amps with SMPS - in debug with bench supplies.

"No Light District" P-P amp with 6AM4 CC loaded input, mosfet splitter, and 6CW5 outputs, with solid state shunt cathode bias and "Blumlein Garter" compensation, and an SMPS. I just breadboarded the bias circuit tonight, and will be lighting it up soon with some EI 6CW5s.

Preamp with JFET RIAA, mosfet-based electronic crossover, and "Linac" jfet line amp.

Parts Express "Tri-Trix" transmission line speaker bi-amped with a couple of my amps.

I may bring my "Half Nelson" amp with a real power supply and upgraded gain circuit for a face-off with anyone who actually builds and brings a "De-Lite" amp as shown by Nelson last year. Is this a challenge? - yes, it is.

I'll also haul in a California Audio Labs CD player (nice sounding as-is), since sources were abysmally lacking last year. Those who live close to SF might consider bringing a TT.

A couple of the modules for my new preamp - the one with the big heatsink is the crossover, and the other is my RIAA amp. Next up is deciding whether to use pots or some 23-step russian switches w/metal film resistors for my volume controls.

I wanted to be able to swap preamp/filter modules around without a lot of roaring and screaming. The SMA connector is a nice compromise between size, durability, and ease of use. You probably made much the same tradeoff. It's still RCAs for the main ins and outs, though. I'll probably bring the preamp to BA using Noble pots vs. stepped attenuators for the main and crossover filter level controls due to the time pressure. It's time to place the modules in the case and start drilling a sh**load of holes, at least for the back panel connectors.

Can't wait to see and hear your amps They should all get auditioned

Mark: Are you planning on a slightly more "formalized" means of getting everybody's gear auditioned?

At last year's (and the year before), there were some projects that never made it to the main system, and once the raffle/giveaway started, the auditioning sort of dissolved.......

Perhaps a staging area for amps/speakers with some thought of what works best with what (ie. SETs+fullrangers, etc) with times and room assignments, etc. Or maybe a quick overview of the design then 3 songs per setup, etc etc.

With multiple rooms maybe a flea power room, a SS/multi-way room, etc. with rotating (or dedicated if you have enough) sources.

Just throwing out ideas.........

Perhaps next year you can coordinate Burning Amp with the Burning Man Festival:

Well, our name has always been an homage to Burning Man.
SY then came up with this:

The Burning Amp - Diy Festival

which is lifted directly from the Burning Man site, but with the word "Amp" substituted for "Man"

Pretty funny, and so far no man has shown up wearing a skirt, but this year the show is the day before Halloween so the chances are about 100% I'd say..
