Building a Aikido preamplifier

Hi All.. I start building a octal Aikido from Broskie, Version B. I have to setup the PSU and do the final assembling. Being a begineer on tubes, help will be highly appreciated....and sorry for my english =). The idea is to swap some components for better quality as Shinkoh resistors, Mundorfs caps, etc. Thanks in advance!

This is the preamp I had built recently, which has tube rectified and regulated power supply. The noise cancellation capacitor had been removed.

Very nice work!

Why have you removed the noise cap? Do you better like the sound without it, and what is changed?

2 pcs. Aikido boards for 6DJ8 amperex

Hi Captn Dave!

I have the Aikido Rev. B so just drop me an email with your email address and I will forward it to you as soon as I come home.

Kind regards

Karsten

Hi Karsten,

Have read most of the thread, and have bought two Aikido boards from Ebay - noval for 6DJ8.

I would very much like to have the Rev.B Aikido pdf! Could you mail me the circuit and documentation?

my spamfree email is : vbkolsen@gmail.com

Second - do you have a preferred HV psu suggestion for this preamp?

I have already tried with a difficult copyright tubepreamp, which uses a lot of amplification stages - and without any luck!! A lot of work - month - and it sounds just not good enough!

Thanks for your assistance in advance.

Regards
Kim

Hi. I have some questions about the Aikido from Broskies.
It is working very fine and I like it a lot. Now I am starting to change some components and I have big doubt about C5 and C6. There are some values recommended. What is the influence of the values, as C5 recommended is from 0.1 - 10 uF, and for C6 is 0.047 - 0.22 uF. The kiy came with C6:0.33 uF, and C5:0.68 uF. Before to buy a expensive one capcitor I would like to know the best value. Thanks

Aikido 6SN7 > 6SN7 line stage

Hi everyone from the Philippines! Here's my take on the Aikido: 6SN7 > 6SN7 line stage with the Janus tubed power supply. I added wireless remote control: kit (MV-01) was bought from diyclub, Hongkong.

Hi,

I'm also building an aikido (dual octal mono) with a Janus regulator PS.
I've build some bottlehead kits and they came out great but these kits come with a full step-by-step manual.

While the aikido is on order, i'm studying the manuals and try to figure out how to wire all the components together; populating the boards won't be a problem i suspect.

Would this be the correct way of wiring this amp? How about grounding?
Any help or comment is appreciated

tnx in advance

Sorry CoolJazz, no help possible from me...
Anyway, thank you very much for your step forward... ;)
BTW, mine is noval, dual mono... and first, have to learn "something"...

 & for fun!

The octal boards have jumpers for grounding the board to the chassis.
The manual states that this is optional. What are the pro's and cons of doing this?

Also, grounding the boards this way adds two extra groundpoints, wouldn't it be better to ground everything to a central (star) ground?

Sounds good, happy with it although I might just move it to a bigger chassis - my input wiring is picking up some buzz from the rectifier. I've gotten it pretty quiet by careful wiring and using sheilded cables but if I had more separation then it would be much quieter I reckon.

The sound is a bit more forceful with this one (6sn7) than the other ones which were 24v ones using ecc86.

Hi Everyone,

here with a couple of question that hopefully someone will be kind enough to answer. I recently purchased a Octal all in one LSA to be bulit as a linestage. first is the kind of transformer to be used. I have two available:

1. Hammond 270FX, 550vct 173ma, 5v 3A, 6.3vct 5a
2. hammond 270CAX 500vct 81ma, 5v 2A, 6.3vct 2.5a

I will be running (4) 6sn7 which draws a total of 2.4A? is this correct? will I be able to get away with using trans #2? Also there are three wires for the heaters.. I guess the ct grn-yell wire goes to ground?
