I can understand you guys cream of the crop keeping ignorant fools like me out of making idiotic comments, but why not allow read-only access to edekeight the masses? Disregard my comment if you intend to keep things secret.

First, because there must be some sort of incentive for the knowledgeable guys to join in.

Secondly, this is more like a kitchen and not everything cooking in is good to be served to the ignorant fools. Projects that reach a certain level of maturity will be published elsewhere (websites, perhaps DIYAudio).

For the rest, read again Andy's manifest.

I have just gained access - read only - so I see no problem there, as yet - regarding read-only viewing.

I agree with those who wish them well.

What I do find a little 'cheap' is members of that forum being able to, and indeed wishing to, come back here and stir the pot whilst those here are disbarred from similar opportunity.....but then self-invented gods have always behaved in such a mysterious manner.:) At least the :cop: here have a sense of humour:D

So, let me strain my ignorant fool brain here a little. You're saying that this is done on purpose to maintain the ignorant state of ignorant fools, by not allowing them to see how great recipes are arrived at? I have to say that it is kind of you to spare the ignorant fool from dangerous mental gymnastics. Or possibly (horror) from stealing your great ideas.

I have no access to the pot, nor do I want it. The cooks are you guys. To me it's just another example of the darker shades of human nature (intolerance, egotism, pathological elitism, arrogance, etc.). Sort of both interesting and sad to watch it unravel. When you stop fooling yourself that the impetus for what's going on was honestly technical you'll have grown a little. With a little class you and some of you cohorts could have been absolute stars on this forum. (I know your answer will be that you're not interested in such status and all you want to do is to talk technical stuff with equally intelligent guys.) If only you weren't so arrogant, full of yourself, and unkind to others, in spite of occasionally making very obvious technical mistakes too. Probably should've left me on ignore :) Take care, I won't miss you.

:D if you care to look back you'll see I was sensitive first when other people got stomped on by syn08, way before he turned his attention to me. In fact you'll find that I wasn't particularly partial to John Curl either when he stomped on people. It's something that kinda gets to me, someone being nasty to others on the sole basis that they might be lacking some knowledge. But I think I'm making too much of a deal out of this right now... so I'll go back to my little sandbox and ltspice :)

Scott, you always were kind. If you were to leave it'd definitely be a loss for this forum. :)

He's pretty sensitive since syn08 stepped on him one day; everyone can have an ego :D

I don't think there is anyone here he hasn't stepped on at one time or another. It's just the way he is, at least on line. I have never met him or talked with him, he may be quite different in person. He is certainly very knowledgeable in many areas. He could have been a real asset here.

The great thing about the internet is that it's big enough for everybody.

Edmond, I genuinely wish you the best of luck and progress with your forum and am sure that some very productive discussion will ensue true to the tenets you've set.

One of our own tenets is respect, and I look forward to diyAudio remaining a place where people of all skill levels can look forward to interacting in both a friendly and respectful manner.

We have plenty of challenges ahead as we deal with through our "growing pains", and will be implementing various ideas to try and best deal with those challenges. Constructive criticism is always going to be appreciated.

The great thing about the internet is that nobody OWNS it.

Deleting posts, erasing threads, closing threads, banning people and so on is not very smart.

Think about it.
