Tim drew out the first stage of this and I thought, "That looks absolutely goofy." Current trickled though an ECC88 cascode? But when I breadboarded and tested it, it turned out to work superbly well. This would be a fine input stage for any power amp where it can be buffered.

its nice to hear good things about TdeP's design.
I have built the amp though I have changed the CF to a cascoded fet source follower, and played around with plate to plate feedback.
Do you have any thoughts about the pros and cons of the level shifting (is that the correct term) scheme between the cascode and the CF?
I would guess that a similar design could be used for other zero bias tubes such as the 811a. Any thoughts?
