Can somebody point me to different ways (including the simplest!) to lay out a line stage that can accept both SE and balanced inputs and also output both SE and balanced to an amp?

I'm also wondering about different ways to wire up a volume control for this - the usual balanced volume control is between + and -, not + and ground. But how to use that for SE inputs?

The line stage could be either SE or push-pull. Just one stage with an output transformer.
