Audion Reference restoration

Hi

I picked up an Audion Refrence preamp some days ago. It is probably from the late 80's and has a phono and line stage. The amp didn't sound to good, and there seems to have been some solderslingers inside it over the years. Now I have cleaned it up and I need some help to make it sound as good as possible but it is an old amp and so it is not ment to be an all out project😉

So, I have drawn a schematic of the curcuit.

First, do you think someome have mixed up the tubes in the first two stages. Should it maybe be ECC83 first and then ECC81.
Then there is the strange output stage with two CF. I was thinking maybe it will be better to just make a third SRPP with ECC81.
All comments and suggestions are very welcome, cause I am not very skilled at this.

Best, Theo

Not sure about the mixed stages - it's possible.
The output stage is understandable to me. They wanted a unity gain line stage with good cable driving capabilities. For me that spells cathode-follower. Some will disagree though...
So what to do with the "spare" 1/2 ECC82? Well check the value of the volume control pot. I bet they have used it to allow them more flexibility to fit a lower resistance volume control.
Would it be better with a third SPPP stage? Depends on whether you want gain between your CD player and power amp. That's rather unlikely I think.
