Hi.
I have spent the better part of an hour sifting through the tube area looking for a tube kit recomendation. My laptop is burning my n$%s and I'm ready to call it quits.
I would really appreciate it if you guys could ponder a few requirements and make a reccomendation for me.
Tube kit for beginner.
Must have all parts.
Clear directions with easy to understand theory behind what I'm doing not just, "put part a into slot b."
Not overwhelming amount of theory(grin).
Under $300US
The day I spend a grand on a tube amplifier when people are starving is the day I consider myself a capitolist swine.
Don't take that personally if you happen to be a capitolist swine(grin).
Thank you very much.

You won't find too many but www.tubesandmore.com has one for $195. Search for k-502.
The Bottlehead S.E.X. comes pretty close.

If you want a kit, I'd go for it or the Decware. They're both about the same power level. Both have good support forums. I know you'll be able to dig up plenty of theory on the Bottlehead. Check out there forum (linked to from their page.
Surely you could build a SimpleSE (by great forum member TubeLab and discussed here at lenth) for that. It's not quite a kit. But With the PCB, construction is simple, as you can even put it on a board with standoffs. The Decware and Bottlehead need really efficient speakers and a tiny room. The SimpleSE has a friendlier power level.

If you are willing to buy your own parts and assemble the chassis, you can build an El Cheapo that cheaply. See the thread here:

I'm going to build one with salvaged transformers that will cost less than $300 and kick butt.

Here is another one:

I haven't seen much about this one. Though I'd probably go for the SimpleSE, SEX or Decware, this looks decent for the very low cost. And he gives some measurements that look believable.
