This is a QUAD 606 Mk2, PS having 2 x 15,000uF 63V caps per channel & output trannies are MJ15003 x 6 per channel.

In the Power Supply section of the QUAD 606 Mk2, the stock bridge
rectifier is a KBU8D type which is a 200V, 8 amps handling device.
The filter caps are (15000uF 63V x 2), a total of 30,000uF per
channel. I presume this may be also true in the newer Quad 909.

I was contemplating of swapping the stock rectifier with a modern one like the IXYS FBE 22-06N1, a Hi performance FRED Epitaxial Fast & Soft recovery type, 600V device with 20 amps current handling
capability. Anyone tried this? Or something similar? And how successful or good can this be to the overall sonics of the amp?

Further, I also wanted to upgrade the filter caps to either (22000uF 63V x 2), totalling to 44000uF per channel or even (27000uF 63V x 2), i.e. 54000uF per channel. Brand of caps are Nichicon KG series Gold tune. Stock ones were BHC Aerovox.

Am I getting too brave to try this I wonder? Comments from fellow
members would be most welcomed and appreciated.

Hopefully this wouldn't smoke the amp!

Cheers!

AG
