if this is a proper method to get Idss.
For measuring Idss, you must short the G-S terminals together. That's what the "ss" means.
So, only one supply is needed. Make sure that the Vds remains well over Vp, to ensure saturation.
Don't forget device static sensitivity when handling.

G-S are shorted that is where the - of the supply is hooked up the + is connected in front of the 1K resistor. There is only 1 supply, using 2 DMM to measure. 1 for Vds (10v) and the other for the Idss(across the 1k resistor).
So I assume this setup is OK?
