The left channel of my Audiolab 8000a has recently developed an intermittent cracking sound which seems to be getting worse.

The crackle happens when the amp is left alone, but also when the case it touched. It happens on all input selections, when the volume is off and from both left channel outputs.

I've opened the amp to have a look and the crackle also occurs if I make contact with the board or a component with a plastic probe.

Does anyone know where I should start to diagnose this problem.

It would be great if this is an easy-ish fix!

Thanks for the help. :)

That sounds like a dry joint somewhere, particularly as you can provoke it by physical means.

Give the board a good visual look over, in particular look over any parts that run hot. This would be a typical scenario, the solder around the transistor leads is cracked.
