I know this probably sounds very lame but I have no idea where to start as I embark on this project. I searched for the word “beginner” in the forum but even what that turned up was a little too advanced for me. Please can anyone help me with at least a starting place to go from? All I’d like to start with is an amp to take a headphone output and power a pair of cheap speakers (Specs below).

I trust that gainclone is the perfect project for very ambitious beginer. it has very low parts, cheap, and the chip is idiot-proof meaning: it takes a nuclear wrhead to destroy it.
