audio software with 'bookmarks'

Hello,

My first post here, hope to start it in the correct forum.

I'm looking for a free software to do the following:
I've got quite long audio files, e.g. 11hrs, and sometimes have to listen only to some chosen parts of them. For instance, from the 11hrs file:
02.45-02.55
04.34-05.00
07.23-07.30
etc.
I also need to loop some of them.
I'd appreciate a simple and user-friendly software that would enable me to quickly mark the intended parts and to listen to them without the necessity to edit the whole file and cut into smaller parts (I know I can edit it, for example, using Audacity, but this is rather time consuming).
Does anything like that exist?

I have used the following on Linux and it worked well:

mp3, ogg vorbis and FLAC splitter - mp3splt-project

For Windows, try this one:

MP3 Splitter Software - Split Mp3, WAV, Music and other Audio

I haven't used it, so I can't say how well it works.

For further googling, the magic phrase is something like "split mp3 wav file."
