Hi everyone.

I've got pretty decent transformer from old Sony mini system (HCD-D60/GR7/GR7J/RX70). HCD-GR7J to be precise.

It works from 115/220V and has dual 31VAC as main supply rails, plus several low voltage rails.

Does anyone have any additional information on these transformers: max current, rated power etc.

Any help will be much-much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
these systems usually have STK chips inside , I think yoy will get some 2x80W per channel @8 ohm load with some +-45V rails from this transformer

Dear osscar, thank you for response.
Yes, you are definitely right. There was single STK-4182II inside, and it worked in stereo mode (no any surround speakers).
I have strong feeling that this trafo is capable to do more than just drive min 45wx2 as it stated in datasheet.

SONY has different output power ( 2x100 for USA :D) and different STK chips in each region - I don't know if the transformers also are different. The weight of this type 200VA transformer should be about 3-3.5 kg approx. But based on on your picture - I don't think it would be much bigger ..for 2x 100W continuous output its seems too small...the relatively high AC secondary voltage indicates that it is designed for an 8 ohm load.

will work fine, of course below max claimed output power, but for music it will be perfectly adequate.

osscar, thank you for your responses. Much appreciated.
I think I will use a little bigger case, so I can upgrade trafo to more powerful one.
Yes, it will be used at home and max 30-40 watts will be more than enough for my place. I do not like wall shaking level of music.
