Do class A amps need a linear power supply? Or a simple Rectifier and capacitor bank should suffice?

Maybe you thought about regulated or SMPS ?
By regulated I meant. Constant current supply.
Regulated (constant) voltage, not current.
All of the Nelson Pass class A amplifiers,
around 50W stereo, use a CRC unregulated supply.
