It's a Pi based device that can rip and store CDs on a hard drive. It does a lot more too.
I know I could assemble one, but I'm not sure for how much less (its $500) and it would certainly be a diy looking cobbled affair.

I'm still using the same 2TB B2 and have 1100 CDs loaded into it FLAC, and it works very well and reliably. I run the optical output into an external high-end DAC and I use a linear regulated power supply. It sounds the same as the original CD played through the same DAC.
I have also taken it on vacation with us to a rental shore house with a pair of small speakers and used its built-in power amplifier and also powered it with the OEM switching supply. It was nice to have our CD collection with us...
