Hi guys,

did someone made a comparison between the HOT ROD DCB1 and the new B1 with the Korg Triode?

Best,

Oliver
@Oliver, I brought the B1 Korg to a friend who had the B1 Mesmerize (not exactly a hot rodded incarnation), we had fuller bass and of course, more gain. But the latter is more soundstage accurate, if there such a term to describe it. Overall, the B1 Korg is fun to build, I will recommend it.

What argues for the B1 NUTUBE-Preamp is in my opinion the versatility
to adjust the 'sound character' with the 10 kOhm potentiometres.
The B1 NUTUBE is adjustable from a tube-like sound to a more analytic sound.

This is how I would describe it. I like this little giant!

But the SALAS DCB1 is also really good!

Adjusting the B1 NUTUBE over the 10 kOhm pots adjusts positive / negative
2nd harmonic. If I understood it right - you shift the 2nd harmonic on the x-axis
relativ to 3rd harmonic.

This influences especially soundstaging or impressions of roominformation in the

music. But I also have the impression that it changes the overall ratio of 2nd and
3rd harmonic especially if you adjust to the 'extremes'. Could also be the higher
distortion?

My impressions.

If you start with the pots fully counterclockwise you will enjoy mucho
+phase 2nd harmonic. As you turn the pot clockwise, lowering the Plate
voltage of the tube, this diminishes until at some point the 2nd harmonic
is cancelled in the load-line of the tube and all you have is 3rd. As you
continue to turn the pot clockwise, a -phase second harmonic appears
and increases as you continue turning.

At the calibrated value of 1% thd, the ratio of 2nd to 3rd is about 10 dB
with 2nd being dominant.
