Actually I have come to the conclusion that I might aswell make them like solens perfect lay. I have already make a winding machine out of lego
and it works really well. Although you have to feed the wire on by hand it will only take about three mins to make a 1mH inductor and cost considerably less then buying them!
Ofcourse I now need to find somewhere selling 0.7-1mm enamelled wire in bulk quantities. So far the maximum ive found is by the kilo but im looking to buy more then that, simply because the more you buy the better value for money it is.
