upc1237C-A?!!

i ordered upc1237 from a korean vendor and they sent me some DIP8 chips that says NEC C1237C on it

did NEC ever produce upc1237 in a different format?

i'm pretty sure i got ripped off..

Unlikely a rip-off. This chip was produced by many vendors in different formats. It's too cheap and too low demand to be worth the time for a rip-off artist.

Why don't you just check it out in a circuit?

vendor sent me a datasheet (all in japanese) which seem genuine. still surprised it's in dip8 format

Interesting a DIP8 version.
I looked at all the datasheets, they all show & repeat the error in the speaker relay diagram. The relay is drawn with the speakers connected up to the relay normally closed contacts, they should be connected to the NO contacts.
