Altering the Cabinet Design

Hi there,

I’m very keen on building a new quality system, perhaps Zaph’s Seas L18 / Seas 27TBFCG design, but cannot seem to find the answer to my simple question;

How greatly will the performance be affect by a different cabinet design? i.e. shape and internal bracing.

I would plan on keeping a similar volume, and speaker placement.

There are just too many variables to give you even a modest response or guess, Cause that's what it will be with out doing the modeling first, just a guess...

Hi,

Baffle width and driver placement related to the top should be the same.
After that you can pretty much change what you like, e.g. a floorstander.

(To be pendatic a floorstanders baffle width could be up to say 1" less)

I think then that I will decrease the hieght by removing the area beneath the woofer, and extend the depth. plus also rounding the corners.

Its going to sound far better than anything I have now!

Hmmm........

I hadn't really considered someone may want to reduce hieght in this way.

Doing this will affect the baffle step to a degree, how much I'm not sure.
