Hi all,

Not everyone is comfortable uploading videos, but given that we cannot travel in COVID times to listen to systems, this is next best. Please upload your videos shot on mobile phones. My request is for you to play classical, jazz, and then whatever tickles your fancy.

Here are a few I have shot of friends' systems.

I have covered below hORNs Universum (Radian 950be, Radian 475 tweeter, active downfiring woofer), Altec 817, TAD 4003 in a dual FLH with JBL, Cessaro Gamma (TAD 4001), AER BD4 and BD5, and Tune Audio Anima

I would be interested in hearing some other horns, especially JBL, Tang Band, Lowther, Vitavox

Starting with hORNs Universum

Universum Szeryng lalo Espagnole - YouTube

Universum Scottish Fantasia - YouTube

Altec 817

Cello VOTT - YouTube

Black Sabbath on VoTT - YouTube

TAD 4003 with JBL dual FLH

Ely Ameling - YouTube

Cessaro Gamma

Cessaro used TAD 4001, here is another 4001 from a Russian named Oleg

Isn't it funny how they keep looking the same when you play different program material ? ;)

Fun aside:

It is very difficult to actually compare them, by the use of YouTube videos. In some cases it sounds as if the rooms were too reverberant which in reality might not even be the case but recording with a mobile phone is different than being there. Also the automatic level control of mobile phones compresses music quite a lot.

If one wants to make a comparison the same tracks should be used. It is difficult to say whether a harsh sounding example is caused by the system or the recording for instance.

The one that I liked best of those linked above is the system of a forum member.

Charles

Charles, if you liked Murat's with the AER, that's because they were not done on a mobile but on a pro recorder. I am sure they are excellent in person as I know the AER bd4 driver quite well.

If you liked Leif's TAD4003, that's the best I have heard in person

I have heard a lot of arguments for and against videos. I just hope people listen to these, try their own at home out of curiosity, and if they like what they are hearing, post themselves.

Of all the YouTube audio gear videos I have seen so far I like the ones made by Kenji of Kenrick Sound the best. IIRC he uses a high quality photo camera in viedo mode with external microphones.

I have once done four videos of a test setup in my workshop. Maybe I will record the same four pieces again but with an audio recorder on manual level Control placed in the sweet spot.

Don't know.

My buddy (rip) mentioned that the video poster has the same music, same recording equipment, so you can compare the sound from quads to sonus faber to those horns. To me the most transient dynamic is the 6db stuff.

He was frugal, but understood why people would pay so much for a horn setup like that.

Oh, think the driver is a big altec, but not sure.
