AE TD15M in a 2-way with Faital HF200/Limmer033 waveguide???
Hi folks,
I have a pair of Faital HF200 paired with Limmer033 CD waveguides, which measures pretty well. I considered to pair them with AE TD15M in a passive two way speaeker design.
Do you think I can get decent and deep bass out of the TD15M or should I consider the TD15X vor H version?
Crossover would be somewhere around 1000kHz vor slightly above (see graphs of the Faital Limmer combo below). I guess the TD15M would be easier to cross to the tweeter as it is flat till 2kHz...
Will the 15" woofer matches in directivity pattern or will a 12" be the better fit?
Thanks an kind regards from Germany,
Stephan

Hello Stephan, most certainly TD 15X in a pretty large cabinet, cca 150 litres. Much better Xmax capabilities. Where does one find FR measurements of these units?
150 Leiters is not a big deal, but I am not sure if the TD15x will give the same good midrange as the TD15M. I habe no FR data oft the woofers, would be great to so in AND off axis response....
Manufacturer claims "with response extending cleanly to over 1000hz" which could be enough for your needs but what exactly does that response look like, I have no idea.

If I were you, I would use the Faital Pro 15PR400. It has some of the best midrange in its class and is super clean way past 1k!
The 15Ms will be better with a relatively high xover at 1kHz or so than the H/S/X. I have all but the H. The Non M's will give better bass. An X only needs 80L not the 150 suggested (that would suit an S more).
Hi Brett, how much bass can I expect from the 'M' ? Will It play...lets say arournd 40Hz f3? I think one can push the tuning fairly down, but at a certain point power handling will become an issue. What are your real live experiences? My room will have about 30 square meters.
@AudioElite can you give some more info on the Faital bass? Did you do comparisons against AE TD15 speakers?
Thanks!

Hi Caisa,
I replied to the email you sent but figured I should probably share here with others as well. The TD15M will have the cleanest upper end response. All TD woofers remove the dustcap and instead have a phase plug. This eliminates a major breakup and distortion point. The cloth surround has virtually no breakup and is clean up to 3KHz. See the LO15 curve attached which has the same cone/surround combination and nearly identical upper end response. The limitation will be the low end response with the 6mm Xmax. The TD15X has 14mm Xmax so it can play much louder down low. The higher excursion requires the change to a hand treated and sealed foam surround though that can move up to 22mm one way. This surround has a couple small, narrow dips about 500hz and 1200hz. These are still very minor compared to many of the dustcap breakups on most woofers. We often have people still using them in 2way systems.
Normally with a 15" driver the upper limit is based on the off axis response. A 15" driver narrows to less than 90 degrees around 800-850hz. This is typically where I would cross either of the TD15M or TD15X to the horn/compression driver.
The Faital HF146R is a great option. I don't see a need to go to the 2" compression driver personally. The upper end response will not be nearly as clean and there is no real need for more power handling on the low end. The best combination I have found is the HF146R with the 18Sound XT1464 horn. The Faital LTH146 also works, but the extra depth of the XT1464 gives better loading on the low end and the upper end is also smoother.
Crossing this to the TD15M would be a higher efficiency system that would be able to go to 35Hz or so in a large vented enclosure. The TD15X would give about 3-4dB less efficiency but could extend to 25Hz. Either could work well to cross around 800-850hz.

I've heard a ported 2 way with the 15M and CP380M and QSC WG. Ported tuning was 40Hz from memory. It went louder than I could stand in the room. For reference, my mains have a pair of 15S each and my surrounds use a 15X each.Hi Brett, how much bass can I expect from the 'M' ? Will It play...lets say arournd 40Hz f3? I've posted measurements of the 15S and X online before, but I can't remember where. There were flat out beyond 1kHz but there was a small surround dip around 500Hz. I only use them to 350Hz so not an issue for me, and probably not for anyone else. It looks far worse on an FR than it sounds.[/QUOTE]
