OMG I can't believe I am only just getting back to building these.
I can! It happens to me all the time!!
Sometimes the more I work on a design the more confused I get and I think I may have lost the thread where these design questions had already been asked and partially answered
is it this one http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/multi-way/216021-vifa-p-13-breakup.html
If it is a thread you have started yourself the easiest way to go to your profile (either click on your name in a post or go to the usercp menu and choose your profile) then click on the statistics tab, and the find all threads started by Moondog55
Tony.
Tomorrow I take the camera around to the workshop.
Today I spread glue, laminating 9mm Marine hardwood ply to 12mm MDF for the speaker baffle. I'm having a bit of trouble explaining to my mate why these need to be so heavy and so rigid. Also I almost had a heart attack when he dropped the big P-26 woofer onto the hard concrete floor,, when the little plastic protectors bounced out he thought the driver had shattered but lucky for both of us no damage was done. Not long now Sweetheart then I can start on the next project.

At long last
Spent today at the mates place using his precision power tools.
Started with a dry assembly.
Next job making out the baffle and routing the driver holes

"Grovels"
Yes dear
{Slinks away to dream of more subwoofers}
Seriously tho, To get reasonable stiffness and low resonance I don't see how I can make them much lighter and the woofer determines the box size. Changing the baffle dimensions to the Golden ration did however make a big difference to the visual impact.
many thanks to my mate Duff for the use of his skills and his table saw. Duff is now enjoying our old lounge-room speakers in his garage [pictures follow] so I have an excuse and reason to build new ones for the front room.
The internal vertical ribs are 25mm thick, will pipe resonances be a real or an imaginary problem depending on the size of the holes I put in them? I was going to make them as big as possible but I only have 200mm to work with; will 100 X 100 mm be big enough??

Update
Here are a couple of pictures of the work so far.
Decided to go with a dual post terminal plate so if needed we can bi-amp

Maybe just a tad too much bass now they are in totally sealed boxes but they are OK Midrange compartment may need a little more fiberglass. Shame about the slip up on the front panel. I may have to just paint them black.
They are LOUD

OK so now these are set up in the loungeroom while we renovate the bedroom. Using the Behringer XO and crossing at 80 and 400
Tri-amped using the Rotel 1070 for mid-bass and the Kenwood/Trio for the upper octaves
Not only loud but clean but I do want to integrate the other subwoofer into the arrangement
