For a concert coming up this weekend, I was loaned this viola. The fact that it was made in 1775 kind of puts all this "newfangled" stuff in perspective, doesn't it? The US wasn't even a country yet...

Needless to say, it sounds great - very different than my "young" 1976 viola. The newer instrument is louder, with a more clear low end. But the old one has more character, and being smaller, is easier to play. I won't want to give it back! But I can't afford it, either...;)
