Should replacement headphone cable telescope the shield?

I'm replacing the coiled headphone cable on my Beyerdynamic DT-250 headphones with a straight cable (simple preference).

The headphone connector provides separate + and - for each driver. Source for the headphones is a headphone amp with 1/4" TRS jack, DMM says sleeve and the amp chassis are common. Environment where the system is used is an unfortunately modern (with respect to RFI) office cubicle ... Multiple computers, LCD monitors, Cat5 patch cables to computers and a wireless access point.

I have some Mogami W2799 mini-quad to use for the cable. Will I get any benefit (or do any harm) from tying the shield to the sleeve within the TRS (seems to be called "telescoping the shield" in some Belden note I came across, but that wasn't audio-related)?

Thanks for any advice,
Alan Roberts
