How do they sound? Before I remarried I always had a nice second system in my bedroom. My wife doesn't like noise of any sort late and night and thinks of my stuff when it escapes the man cave as clutter.. LOL

I sort of miss the music as I drifted off to sleep paradigm. A timer shut everything off at a certain hour.

How do they sound?

Absolutely stunning, considering the complete absence of bass😀
The picture was taken during the very first listening test I did to see if the concept is worth pursuing. FE167E might not be a first choice for front horn loading but I had a pair on the shelf so why not.

Probably just about right for the end use if you are looking for some quiet listening. Perhaps a set of small woofers in infinite baffles.

They look neat, nice build quality.. I was not able to get acceptable sound out of a pair of FE167E in half chili-changs so you are already way ahead of me. 😀

Front loaded tractrix style horns rule. The sound is best described as stunning. You are stunned and cannot move but are forced to remain and listen more and more. The distortion is minute because the cone only moves maybe 50microns for 100dB SPL. Nice work. What profile did you use and how did you calculate it?

Volvotreter's website has lots of plans and calculators.

I agree, FLH is the way to go! I already have a fully horn loaded 4 way system in my mancave and another rig with corner bass horns in the living room...😱

The funny part about the bedroom horns is that they were designed without doing any maths, I basically took a piece of paper and drew something that looked like it might work. There´s a reason behind this: I tried to use HornResp (which I´ve used a lot in other projects) but since I only have room for a 37cm long horn (driver included) I decided to build a rather "shallow" waveguide instead of a true horn.

The design was inspired by Bo Hanssons Chaverex horns:

First order XO, just some parts from the top layer of the junk box🙂 I´ll put some effort into designing a proper crossover later on, for the moment I´m basically just fooling around and testing some ideas. This is mostly a "just for fun" project, FLH + OB has a bit more "swag" than just putting those Fostexes in a pair of BR cabinets😀

I wish I could but if I move them more than half an inch away from the wall they´ll block the door to my girlfriends closet. I think we all can imagine the impact that would have on her tolerance for large, odd looking DIY speakers in the bedroom😀

I´m well aware that OB´s should have a much larger distance from the wall to work as intended, this is just an experiment. I have this idea of stuffing the void behind the baffles with damping material to partly absorb the rear wave, something between OB and aperiodic boxes maybe.
