If you can find them, the ('80 vintage) Radiometer (Copenghagen, Denmark) RE104 is about as good as it gets. Has a REALLY useful (for FM alignment) RF sweep function capability from up to +/- 5Khz to 4Mhz. Combine it with their SMG40 Stereo generator and you have what Dick Sequerra used for his later tuner.

The RE125 RF generator was their last, and had provision for a built-in (optional) FM stereo generator

The Panasonic units are also good - China has some made some copies.

No. the VP-8177A needs a stereo generator like the Panasonic VP-7635A/P or VP-7636A/P or VP-7637A, Meguro MSG-211G or MSG-2174 or MSG-2101, etc.
