Odd radio sound coming from Alps upgraded volume pot

I hope all is well with you!
If I touch my volume knob and keep a finger on it for a second, I pickup the sound of an AM Radio station and also a slight (very faint) static-pop noise when the finger is placed and sometimes lifted from the volume knob.
Is there something I can do to eliminate this?
I'd also be curious as how I could remove the volume potentimeter from the unit altogether. I wouldn't mind converting the unit to a power amp.
