I am looking at building a turntable and i am looking for any advice you might be able to give me on building the motor drive unit.
I have a small workshop with a CNC router, lathe etc and I am quite confident in building the platform, turnable, motor housing etc but I fall down on the electronics side of things.
Where might I be able to source a reasonably priced motor preferably in Australia and is there a suitable speed controller kit that I could make for it?
Thanks for any help

Air bearing & Lenco
Hi Ben (& Gigi).
Just some ideas & home build for the fun ....
Air bearing principle with centering à la Wel tempered & motor management à la Lenco (with micro rpm tuning) & tangential air bearing tone arm à la Terminator ....
Air bearing TT & TA 16" - My Photo Gallery
Ground noise .... near zero ....
It's music ....
Good luck

Well here is as good as it gets. Look up in analogue section at DIY, the SG4 diy 4 phase sinewave generator for turntable motor drive. You will be at the top of the game.
One extra tip if you are going belt/tape/string drive make the platter heavy 30lbs and up should do the trick.
Enjoy the ride

Hey Ben,
How did it go?
You can try with this CNC machining service website. I already use them for my own project. They ship worldwide and source at a reasonably priced, they maybe have CNC suppliers or will have in the future them in Australia. Not sure
I hope it helped
