I had a nice USB interface I built from info on this forum but it crapped out....bad lightning storm few weeks ago maybe did it.

Can't remember but it was the TI chip with built in USB.

Is there a kit out there somone is selling....I want to get up and running again without starting from scratch.

Thanks

If you only need spdif output, I have a few of these boards left http://www.ecp.cc/usb-spdif.html

I also have a review of the above mentioned converter, if you are interested http://www.ecp.cc/gud.html. Short version: for what it is, it's quite good. Not the end all and be all of sonic clarity, but compared to commercial usb converters in the price range, it is a step up.

have you guys heard of these chips (2702) being unusually susceptible to power line spikes? (mine was powered through an external regulator).

like I say, after a year of flawless performance...it's shot...I tried reinstalling but constantly get a "usb device not recognized".

I have had several experiences with lightning strikes and they are consistent in two things. They break things, and they break things.

By this I mean that sometimes the energy is sufficient to turn a device into a flaming ball of plasma, and other times it is sufficient to burn through isolation layers in the silicon with no outward appearance of damage.

ESD (electrostatic damage) can do this too.

A lightning strike would have had no trouble destroying a regulator and your USB DAC device. I've seen televisions leap several feet in the air and then scatter themselves over a wide area.
