Nad 658 streaming dac

Just got the nad 658 it plays fair with a cheap lepai chip amp, an old g12 tube amp but the main function was to hook up to a pass f6 which every time I try smoke rises from my F6 luckily the F6 still works after several tries. Along with the smoke is a buzzing sound. The smoke seems to come from the cl60 which is only there for slowing start up

That's not a good sign, it probably means it's drawing excessive current

The F6 can't hack the DAC sample clock perhaps? Might be sent into oscillation by this?


I also note the JT123 FLPCH has an ominous peak in response at around 160kHz, suggesting it could resonate with
the MOSFET gate capacitance somewhere close to the DAC clock frequency.
