Title says it all.
I am looking for a high quality CD Mechanism:
Sturdy motors, spring loaded cones for centering the CD, spring loaded gears without lash, two steel rods, brass bearings for the laser, at least a metal frame.
BTW I am rather forced to call this high quality because of todays standards.
In 2014 it looks like there is only crap available for the DIYers
like Sony KHM-313 (production announced to be stopped) and Sanyo DV-34.
Philips seems to have stopped production of the CD Pro2, their subsidiary Daisy-Laser is offline, Philips consumer electronics was sold to Gibson.
Did I miss something?
As far as I know, no other brand sells in small quantities to DIYers...

Thanks for the link, but almost every drive seems to be slot in / slim tray.
The best one MATSHITA - DVD-R UJ-85J, is slot-in and very fragile.
Quote from a trepair guide from the company with the bitten fruit:
"Caution: The optical drive is very fragile. Handle by the sides only!"
Nothing really suitable for a toploader with some probably heavy clamper
Also the only CD-Rom controllers available I know are SCSI based, not SATA...

CD Pro2
Do you still have it and want to sell it?
I have a brand new in the box never used CD-Pro2 if that helps you. I'm not going to use it.
