Currently I'm a terrible drag-solderer

Maybe not entirely off topic...

Anyone here with any negative experiences using vias in/on pads?
My main concerns have to deal with that when having vias in pads, that some solder paste wicks into the via while the board is hot, then upon cooling, the board shrinks some while the solder potentially keeps the pad stuffed and expanded.

Any concerns?

The usual convention with vias in pads is to “tent” the opposide side of the via. This simply means filling in the solder mask over the via on the opposite side of the PCB. As long as the via hole isn’t too large, the solder mask blocks the opposite side, ensuring solder doesnt flow down the hole.
