Guys, I just want to connect portable field mixer with camera.
Source: Sound Devices Mix Pre-D.
Should I connect all three pins OUT with all three pins IN (in camera) &
shield connect only to pin 1 on the mixer side and not connect it on the camera side???
In my opinion it's right solution for balanced connect.
Current should not flows through shield; Am I right?
I just only found in internet balanced connect with three pins & 2 lines + Shield. What about 3 lines + shield?
Please, resolve my problem. THX

Hi
Pins 2 and 3 are the one's that count the shield is just a shield ,try it and see if it works ok ,if it has hum connect the shield to pin 1 on one end and and if it doesn't go away connect the other end to the other pin 1,This is why you find a switch on some equipment for the ground,
I hope this helps and if you need some more info try RANE.com they have a good article on xlr connections,
Regards,
NS

XLR = 1,2,3 = ground, left, right
So pin 1 is ground/shield, pin2 is hot, pin 3 is common
XLR females are always inputs. (if your question is about input/output)
I assume you're taking the stereo signal from the camera to a recorder so the camera should have a record out.
you can buy gender changers...
