Hi

looking at previous threads - there seems to be a circuit diagram for the Linn Axis power board around.

Could somone send me a copy - I have a dead Power Supply / Drive board with a completely burnt out R1.

In the first instance I need to confirm the value of R1.

thanks

Beamish

Honestly, if a power resistor is shot, I guess it's highly unprobable that replacing it will fix your problem. It is more likely that this was only the consequence of a short somewhere else. The short might not be obvious since the high voltages on the board (up to 300V! be cautious!) make the situation worse.

All the best, Hannes

R1 is just a surge guard for the bridge. The exact value is not that important. It usually ranges from 27-47ohm. The newer models have replaced it with a thermistor SG240 to protect the bridge. It basically disappears once the circuit is warmed up so there is no power loss across the resistor.

Hi tkwou - thanks for your quick reply. Would that mean the bridge is fried too?
I've have and some hotspots beneath R2 and R3 (15k? )but the only other visible problems are that maybe C1/C2 and definitely C8 are bulging a bit.

My plan was to replace those and mayb e the rest of the electrolytics (with uprated ones) in the first instance

Not necessarily. R1 blows to protect the bridge. It tends to blow pretty easily. But you'll have to check the voltage across the caps once it's powered up. Be careful it should be over 300V DC. The electrolytic caps usually go. It get's pretty on that board. R2 & R3 get really hot but they don't usually don't blow. Just check the resistance to see if they are ok. If they are damaged then there will be no voltage supply to the low power circuits.

The power resistors (15K) measured fine and I got this working again just by replace the 6 largest caps and the blown bridge protective resistor with a thermistor. I did purchase the 7 smaller electrolytics caps but as they looked fine.

It runs a little slow (more so on 45rpm) so I sent for a new belt, but if it's still out I read that its possible to adjust the pots from underneath - but does anyone know which is for which speed?

Another issue I've noticed it that the internal tonearm wire is noisy when moving the arm, and the external cable seems to be poorly shielded as it picks up interference if its too close to a nearby PSU, so and both seem to be candidates for replacement or upgrades.

If replaced the internal wire on Rega arms before but I cant find anything to guide me on how to do this for the Basik plus. Anyone seen any tips?

thanks

Unknown remarks on the genuine Schematic from Linn

in the third PDF of my previous post there are to read various notes. Most of them I understand, but not all.
1) What means the remark on U6 (Pins 10-11-12, in the schematic left side, further down) and R42 (820K) as follow:
NOTE: must be switched out, h le pins 2, 3, 9 or 10
(or else bad feed thro')
?
2) What means
5/1/87 R60, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65 (under "changes" right side further down) ?
I don't find no resistor numbers above R59 on my boards.
Thanks for an advice.
