There are times when I see so many arguing against what I am stating that I begin to doubt myself. I will re-read what I have typed, I will re-read what the protagonists have typed.

It is nice to occasionally see support for what I have stated.
Thanks Jan.

Andrew,

Your track record of being correct on things are impeccable.

Let me venture to comment on what you touched on. It is the way the information was delivered. It is unfortunate but true (based on neuroscience research). When people perceived that the message was a "threat" to their "status", their first neurological response is to defend. This move impair their capability to evaluate the content of the message. Next thing we know, argument broke out and everything become personal.

Being a research scientist (in chemical research) for over 30 years, I saw that happen quite often, especially in graduate school. You proposed a theory based on your data, your colleagues question it based on other results. The person who propose the theory started to defend without being objective or unbiased => to look at things from another different angle and think about what the critics are saying.

Remember that the internet is flooded with information many of which are "open to question" or down right misleading. For people who are not knowledgeable in the field, they learn to take everything with a grain of salt and be skeptical. Can't blame them for questioning your answer. When they question you, you felt your "status" is being threaten because you have years and years of experience in the field and you know your information is "correct". Then all the common courtesy (however little there was at the beginning) got thrown out of the window and big arguments ensue. Well, we are what we are. Our characters and life experiences shapes the way we interact with people. If everyone can improve on what they know needs to improve, this world will be a much better place.

I think this forum is a valuable resource for DIYers. Not so much for specialists who have years of experiences in electronics. I believe their participation in this forum is essentially a display of their of goodwill and willingness to share their knowledge and I personally felt very grateful.

Sorry for the off-topic and long post. I have been in this forum for a number of years now and too often I saw arguments broke out for very trivial things. Arguments/disagreements are fine, unfortunately most arguments/disagreements usually spiral into something personal quickly. I just hope that we all can participate in this forum in a fruitful and enjoyable manner.

Regards,
