The purists will probably cringe but does anyone suggest Audyssey room EQ or the miniDSP for subwoofer setup.
MiniDSP works very well for a sub. Many of us use it for EQ and high pass to prevent over excursion and as low pass to XO with mains. You can see examples of it used with many threads in this forum.
Not a "purist" issue.
The real issue is the correctability of speaker and room effects.
To kick off the discussion, it is generally considered ill-advised to try to tame major dips caused by room effects. But OK to tame (a bit) large peaks.

I use Behringer 2496 products, including the SRC for A/D conversion of my vinyl source, DEQ and DCX.
The system has never sounded better, though there are some issues that need addressing.

+1 and not to forget the time-alignment tricks you can do with a DSP to "move" a sub in a corner closer to the mids.I use Behringer 2496 products, including the SRC for A/D conversion of my vinyl source, DEQ and DCX.
