Zoom Projection Lens...

Hello,
I was doing a search through http://www.surplusshed.com and found this zoom lens off of a video camera: http://www.surplusshed.com/pages/item/l3020p.html. I was wondering, or rather praying, that this lens assembly would be useful as a projection lens. Is there any way to tell if this lens would work, and if so, what the projected image size to LCD picture size ratio is in the range of. Or at least how big the image will be, roughly, given a distance away from the screen.

Thanx

Dwiel

hi
i'm not an expert with this
the advantage is that (maybe) you can change the size of the screen using the zoom
but zoom eat more light due to the number of lenses

i'll try to use one on my project
i'm waiting for the part

for example at 4 meters from the wall you can have a 2 meter base image but you can also have a 0,5 meter image

it's a thing that must be tried because if it works it's easy to find

bye

i don't think that such lenses are economical for us. besides the supposed short focal length and so on...
it sux that we have to get our projection lenses from ohps or other devices like that. it would be much cooler if someone with insight on optics could tell us how to assemble our own projection lense setup. then we only would have to look for the lenses, and build them together. a zoom lense would be within our grasp! hehee

nitemare
you're right
i think people who own a comercial projectror can help us with pics
i saw some but never had the luck to dismantle'em
it does not seem to be very complicated
seems to have only 2 lenses
one for the screen size and one for the focus;
am i right
can anyone help us?
is there a thread here about that?
it's not hard to build a remote control to adjust these lenses
bye it's late and i'm busy after a hard night

thanx to all the people who help us

(remember, i'm only interested in compact video projector so please do not post replies with ohp solution(thanx))

"(remember, i'm only interested in compact video projector so please do not post replies with ohp solution(thanx))" ????
is this a joke? "compact" is a luxury far away from our cause here on DIY beamerz....
most of the DIY stuff is using ohp optics, and even bigger because of the large light sources...

and remote controling a zoom lense is so far from my concern right now. ho often do i want to change the size of my screen? once in a while mabe at the beginning but once it is perfectly set. i won't touch that again...

i found a 800*480 7" for 170$
waiting for it and the fresnel
i think i'll try with cold 200 w halogen bulbs
i'll see when i'll get all the stuff and post a thread with my job or put all this s$$t in the trashcan😱

bye
