'Hot Rats' and 'The Grand Wazoo'
always perfect albums to test out my speakers. theres nothing like some good head-fusion music. and theres just not enough of it.

Some favorites:
"Watermelon in Easter Hay" from Joe's Garage Part 2. I played it as a requiem the day Frank died.
All of Sleep Dirt and Orchestral Favorites, "Duke of Prunes" in partcular. Amazing guitar feedback control.
There are also some good instrumentals on Make a Jazz Noise Here.

I'll have to check out Make a Jazz Noise. Haven't heard of it.
Which Hot Rats are you referring to? Waka Jawaka? Or the older one with the original Captain Beefheart version of Willie the Pimp?
Dog Breath Variations is a real test of resolution. And it must be from the LP, since the CD was totally screwed up.

I guess it would be the one with Willie the Pimp. I'm assuming that's Captain Beefhart on vocals. Dog Breath Variations? This has Gumbo Variations on it.
And Peaches en Regalia..which is just... an orgy to my ears.

Dog Breath was on Uncle Meat. As the liner notes indicate, the section immediately following the words, "...my ship of love is ready to attack," is particularly interesting.
Have you heard the live versions of Peaches and Willie on "Live at the Fillmore '71?" The latter has one of the finest wah-wah guitar solos I've ever heard.

Too bad Willie the Pimp got split over two sides of the Fillmore LP.
This thread started me on a Zappa jag. I had forgotten what a good record The Grand Wazoo was. Playing that led to side two of Zoot Allures, with the very, um, 'atmospheric' The Torture Never Stops. Then Sleep Dirt, then disc 1 of Make a Jazz Noise Here (disc 2 in on right now). My wife commented on what 'interesting' music I had been playing before bedtime...
Thats not strictly instrumental😀 I heard a few voices in there. But it was some kind of response to people claiming the FZ could not play the guitar😉 I think it was well proven that he could, with that DB album. Superb work.shut up and play yer guitar...

Sorry to dig this one up, but I just had to add 'Black Napkins' and 'Sofa' from Live in New York come to mind.
Anyway, big fan, just had to vent, hehehe.
