Hey Folks,
at the Moment I'm listening to my 1st Attempt in DIY-Audio and I think, it's pretty ok for a no Tools, no Budget, no Kit Thing.
As a complete Newbie, first Thing was to read everything the Net had to offer. All Hail to the Interwebs! It's all there, all I needed to know.
Second, what will it be? I wanted to build something without existing Plans, just what I imagined. It had to be cheap, but no Crap.
My Decision fell for two tiny (HxWxD: 100 x 17 x 25cm - 18mm MDF) standing Speakers plus a Subwoofer, because I don't like those clumsy typical 1980s Style Speakers.
Ok, the Chassis are (per Speaker) 2x Gradient W 130 AL 8 5" Deep-/Mids + 1x Monacor DTM 104/8 1" Soft Dome Tweeter.
(Gradient Select W 130 AL 8 Magnetisch Geschirmt, Aluminium kaufen bei hifisound.de - hifisound.de
The first 5" + the Tweeter are sharing a sealed 8 Liter Volume, the second 5" has a 8 Liter BR - Enclosure on it's own.
As Music Player and active Crossover I use my Computer with an ASUS Xonar D2X Soundcard and the EQ APO/ Peace Software.
Powered are the Speakers by LM1875 ChipAmps. As there are 3 Chassis pro Box, I use 3 Channels, and for each Chassis it's own ChipAmp.
The Subwoofer is a Mivoc AW 3000 in a 45 Liter sealed Enclosure which is driven by two TDA7293 in parallel configuration.
(Mivoc AW 3000 Tieftoner Papier beschichtet kaufen bei hifisound.de)
This Chassis is of really good Quality and I think it wouldn't be easy to get more Bass for such small Money.
Now my Question: I'm getting along with EQ APO quite well, but I did not use any Software like REW or Carma, etc. yet. I made the adjustments for the crossover frequencies and the transition steepness just by hearing (and I really like what I hear). Doing this Step by Measuring & Software is next to come.
I won't tell you yet at what Frequency and with how much steepness I set the Crossovers. Thats my Question at the experienced People here: What Values would you have chosen?
Best Regards J.

I would cross over at the Baffle step frequency, (115/baffle width of your midrange cabinet in metres), but it's room dependent, (room modes may affect the sound), as well as your taste in bass....
If that high peak at just under 2KHz is obvious, I'd go at least 2nd order, otherwise 1st order should be OK.
re:'LM1875 ChipAmps' - love the sound of these, even though I'm from the 'an amp is an amp is an amp' school...
